About Us
The White Horse is a traditional pub in the village of Upper Poppleton, minutes from the beautiful city of York. Steeped in history, the pub has always played an integral part of village life, dating back from as early as 1793. From being the premises of a shoemaker, brewing stills of mint to help with ailments, and even being a biker’s paradise in the 1970’s, The White Horse has welcomed everyone over the years.
Today, the pub is run by Chris and Maria from York, who are ready to welcome you too.
Serving delicious food, great beer and wine and a large selection of non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks, The White Horse Pub & Dining is ready to make new history.
We are delighted to announce that The WhIte Horse won the 2023 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award. This is the second year running and the team are over the moon. We thank all our customers for their reviews and love over the last two years.
Food
Offering great British pub food, the kitchen team have created a delicious menu using fresh, seasonal and local produce whenever possible.Take a look at our sample menus.
Food is served:
Tuesday and Thursday 12–2pm and 6–8pm. Wednesday 12-2pm only (no dinner service)
Beer & Wine
From local beers on hand-pull to continental lagers on tap, we have something for everyone. We also stock gluten free beer.
We are delighted to have recently launched our new wine list which has over 20 wines from around the world, including bubbles. If you are not sure what you fancy, be sure to ask the team for some advice.
We also have a large range of gins and spirits.
